Current Chair of Grŵp Gwalia Cyf, Ray Singh CBE announced the retirement of Gwalia's Chief Executive of over 35 years on the 31st March. He said: "Michael became Chief Executive on the 1st January 1982. His ambition was to take a small Swansea association and turn it into an organisation that provided housing and care for people in Wales. In order to provide a comprehensive service Michael knew that the Association had to grow and concentrate on the needs of the people and the communities in south west Wales. Gwalia is one of Wales’ best associations. I know that Michael is proud to have led it and work with dedicated colleagues to produce some of the most needed, innovative housing and care schemes in Wales.
"Michael believes in a comprehensive, holistic housing and care service centred on the needs of people and their communities. In order to do even more for people in Wales, he is pleased that the merger with Seren will produce more homes and an expansion of our care business as part of the new pobl group.
"The new group will need the support of the excellent teams within Gwalia. The Gwalia name is synonymous with high quality housing, care and support – particularly in Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot and surrounding areas. It will continue to serve, and be present in, these communities as part of the newly-formed group, providing a fitting legacy to Michael’s term and achievements as Chief Executive.
"This is an exciting opportunity and on behalf of us all I wish Michael a happy, healthy and long retirement."
