In January, the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) undertook an inspection of the domiciliary care services provided by the Gwalia Care and Support domiciliary care agency.

The inspection visit took place over 3 days, with the inspector visiting many of our services and interviewing both staff and service users. Our Director of Care was also interviewed along with the responsible individual and two of our registered managers.

Overall the inspection found that the agency performs well and has a clear, person centred approach to care provision alongside a clear management structure.

The interviews with our service users were very positive and revealed high standards of care and support. The inspector noted that people were treated with dignity and respect and felt that they had control over their care. It was also noted that we had good working relationships with partner agencies and stakeholders including health services. Care plans and risk assessments were described as ‘very good’ with dedicated and competent staff providing good quality care to maintain and promote people’s wellbeing.

The inspector found that staff were provided with a high level of support and training, ensuring high competency levels and enabling them to feel valued. As part of this, our introduction of ‘living wage’ was noted as being very positive staff.

Our ‘quality ambassadors’ were also commended as part of a valuable quality assurance management process, providing a valuable insight into service provision and continuous improvement.

Our Director of Care, Mark Lewis said “The findings of the inspection were very positive. We are always aiming for excellence in the work that we do to ensure the people we provide services to have the highest quality of care delivered to them.

We are hopeful that the inspection report will provide a sound basis for further development and expansion of the domiciliary care services we provide in line with our goal to continue to provide high quality, person centred care for people.”
