First residents welcomed into Gwalia Mynydd Mawr
Last week we welcomed our first residents into our new nursing home, Gwalia Mynydd Mawr, in Tumble.
The purpose built home caters for people who require nursing care, rehabilitation treatment and respite. Staff also specialise in the provision of dementia care.
One of our first residents, Mr Skone, particularly enjoyed meeting Kiba, a black labrador owned by our Regional Manager, Jane Hitchings.Jane said: "Studies have shown that regular contact with a pet can help decrease anxiety and increase feelings of calm and wellbeing. There is significant evidence of the benefits that contact with pets can have on older people suffering from cognitive impairments, such as dementia.
"I’ve only recently got Kiba and she’s proving a very popular member of the team! She’s a very sociable dog and loves interacting with the people here - she gets as much out of it as they do."
The 65 bedrooms at Gwalia Mynydd Mawr all have ensuite facilities, with many benefitting from views of the courtyard gardens or the spectacular Gwendraeth valley.
Our Cwtch, a large lounge on the first floor, has a licensed bar and on a good day, you can see for miles from our roof terrace garden.
