Gorwel Consortium launches construction services initiative
The Gorwel Consortium has launched a new initiative to provide construction services to affordable housing services throughout Wales.
The Gorwel Consortium is a group of independent housing associations working together to promote high quality, affordable homes and services throughout Welsh communities. Our role has been to develop and tender a main contractor services framework on behalf of the Consortium.
As part of this framework 11 contractors, chosen for their experience, quality management and value for money, will work with members of the Consortium on future developments to provide a host of Welsh communities with affordable, sustainable housing to rent and buy. The framework will be in place for the next four years, with over £24 million available to support developments.
Having this framework in place will enable members of the Consortium to access a range of trusted contractors within easy access for housing and service developments, improving the efficiency of services we all provide.
Speaking of the initiative, our Executive Director of Property Development and Management, Stuart Davies said: "Tendering a main contractor services framework ensures that Gwalia, along with our partner associations, build housing developments that are of the highest standards of quality, innovation and sustainability. Gwalia’s aim is to ensure that our services are provided with the maximum benefit to our tenants; this framework ensures that we, along with our partnerships, can continue this."
The framework also has an emphasis on employment and training benefits for local communities. Initiatives such as apprenticeships and sustainable communities are expected to be created through its use.
The Gorwel Consortium includes Gwalia, Family Housing Association, Pembrokeshire Housing Group, Bro Myrddin Housing Association and Cymdeithas Tai Cantref.
