Gwalia's Big Day Out 2016

Gwalia's Big Day Out 2016

On 10th August Gwalia Housing held its third Big Day Out for tenants and their families at the LC in Swansea. This year’s was the biggest and best so far.

The day provided a whole host of activities to keep everyone busy. For kids there was soft play, the ever popular pirate ship, circus skills, face painting, close-up magic, wii games, virtual reality experiences and a climbing wall, as well as lots of arts and crafts and competitions. It was great to have sunny weather meaning the museum green was a great place for picnics and play. There was also the chance to explore a working fire engine that attended for the day courtesy of mid and west Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

For adults there was a whole host of charities and organisations attending offering advice, freebies and fun. Workshops were also on offer in tai chi, mixed martial arts and drumming as well as health checks and blood pressure checks. Gwalia provided a digital hub, helping tenants get online and sign up for My Gwalia: Gwalia’s online information system for tenants. Gwalia’s three main repairs contractors were also available to tenants on the day.

This year’s raffle was run by Faith in Families and we were pleased also to see Lee Trundle (ex Swansea City player) showing his support alongside Swans mascot Cyril the Swan.

Everyone who attended got a free goody bag containing snacks, drinks, leaflets, money off coupons and a free child’s swim at the LC. As in previous years, free transport was provided with seven coaches travelling from areas across south west Wales.

Rachel Percival, Gwalia’s Tenant Participation Officer said: “It was an exhausting day but when we saw how much everyone enjoyed it and how useful it was, it made it all worthwhile. Someone even said “Gwalia know how to throw a party!” so we can’t do better than that!”.
