Innovative Support Service Launched in Dyfed Powys
On Friday 27th March we launched a new anti-social behaviour service (ASB) for the Dyfed-Powys region.
Funded by the Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, the service will ensure victims receive early intervention and have access to advocacy, counselling and other services to reduce the impact of antisocial behaviour.
Last year, there were more than 19,500 reported cases of antisocial behaviour in Dyfed-Powys - 7,696 in Carmarthenshire, 3,047 in Ceredigion, 4,865 in Pembrokeshire and 3,925 in Powys. This equates to approximately half of all incidents reported to Dyfed-Powys Police. The new ASB service was commissioned to address this challenge, reduce its impact and work to make communities safer.
Richard Davies, our Executive Director of Customer Services said at the launch "Our service will put the victim of anti-social behaviour at the centre of the process, we promise a flexible and responsive service with the aim of making people feel safe in their communities.
"As part of this ethos we have employed 4 support workers to work in the four counties within the Dyfed Powys area. Their role is specifically based around supporting the victims of anti-social behaviour to make the supported person feel more comfortable and confident living in their home and community."
Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, Christopher Salmon said that by commissioning this new service he wanted to reduce the impact and ultimately reduce the occurrence of ASB.
He added: "I want to keep communities safe against problems that blight people’s lives. I hope this service will prevent small things becoming crimes."
Mr Salmon also called for better information sharing between agencies working with victims to ensure a holistic approach that gives victims the support they need and also means that perpetrators are dealt with appropriately.
The Commissioner concluded: "Gwalia already have great experience in communities and in dealing with antisocial behaviour and I’d call upon all partner agencies here today to work together to provide a fantastic service for the people of Dyfed Powys."
