New Affordable Housing Neath Port Talbot

New Affordable Housing Neath Port Talbot

King Edward Road Plans

This Summer will see us beginning a local affordable housing build project at two Neath Port Talbot locations. Banwen Place in Brynamman, which is close to the Ynys Dawela Nature Park and will be home to twelve 2 bedroom bungalows and, a short drive away, King Edward Road in Tairgwaith where six 3 bedroom family homes will be developed.

We will be working with J.G Hale Building Contractors of Neath, who will begin the £2 million joint developments within the month.

Our Executive Director of Property Development & Management, Stuart Davies said “Employing local contractors Hale Construction on both these developments has enabled us to achieve cost savings through economies of scale. Hale will work on both sites simultaneously, using local suppliers and contractors, and will be producing the timber frames for each property at their factory at Milland Road, which also means that the carbon footprint of the developments will also be significantly reduced”.

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council supported the development of the affordable housing through the Social Housing Grant programme. Consequently Gwalia received £1,160,000 of Social Housing Grant from the Welsh Government for the developments.

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council Cllr Ali Thomas said "This is very welcome news for Neath Port Talbot and the Amman Valley in particular. The council is committed to working in partnership with local housing associations to develop appropriate, affordable, good quality housing for people within the county borough.”

“There is increasing demand for affordable housing in all parts of the country and these developments will be of enormous benefit to the local area. I am particularly glad to see Gwalia's commitment to utilising local labour and suppliers.”

Completion of the Banwen Place and King Edward Road developments will take approximately one year and the homes will be ready for occupancy by the local community by Summer 2014.
