New homes let at Swn y Gamlas in Clydach
Our new homes for rent at Swn y Gamlas in Clydach were let within days of the building work being completed.
To meet the demand for homes in the area we've built 14 apartments specifically for people aged over 55.
Carol Brunton, who received the keys to her new home from Neighbourhood Housing Officer, Rehana Begum, said “This is perfect for me; it’s really close to Clydach town centre and has good links into Swansea where I work.”
The 1 and 2 bedroom apartments at Swn y Gamlas have revitalised a brownfield site in the heart of Clydach. We bought the site which used to be the Clydach Health Centre as part of an initiative called the Land Release Protocol. This makes surplus public sector land available for affordable housing.
Our Executive Director of Housing and Community Welfare, Lesley Penn said “This £1.2 million development has enhanced and contributed to the continued regeneration of Clydach. The development has been extremely successful and we were able to let them all within 3 days of taking handover from the contractor. We’ve had great feedback from the new tenants.”
The City and County of Swansea’s Housing Strategy department supported our bid for social housing grant funding of over £520,000 to build the 14 new homes at Swn y Gamlas.
