New youth accommodation in Western Bay
We are extremely pleased to announce that Gwalia have been successful in bidding for a brand new scheme in Western Bay (Swansea, NPT and Bridgend).
From December 2013 we will be providing a housing related support service to young people in the community.
Having recently done more work in this area of Wales, we were approached by the newly formed Western Bay Youth Justice & Early Intervention Service to put in a bid for a pilot scheme - the first to be published since the team formed through the amalgamation of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend Youth Justice Services.
The scheme will act as a pilot project running over a 16 month period until March 2015.
Our project team worked hard to develop a response, using creative thinking and innovative solutions to develop a service model that Gwalia has never worked from before. The service will be provided by two ‘positive outcomes mentors’ who work across the Western Bay Area to guide the young people through all aspects of daily life. Working as an ‘honest friend’ to those referred into the service, the mentors will work completely flexibly over days, evenings and weekends; breaking the boundaries of a 9-5 support worker role.
The accommodation based aspect of the service will utilise both our existing properties and schemes (such as the Foyers) and strong partnerships we have in the Western Bay area to enable the quickest route possible for the young people into accommodation.
It is hoped that this innovative model will enable young poeple to make choices about what they want their future to look like.
Mentoring jobs will be advertised both internally and externally in the coming weeks, so if you feel you can work flexibly with young people to help shape their future, then keep an eye on our current jobs.
