Our new home online: www.gwalia.wales
On 30th September we became one of the earliest adopters of the new domain for Wales alongside the Welsh Government, the National Assembly for Wales, S4C, Media Wales and the Welsh Rugby Union among others.
The official launch of the .wales and .cymru domains took place at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay at 6pm on 30th September. First Minister of Wales, Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM formally launched the new domain names at a reception hosted by Dame Rosemary Butler AM, Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales and Ieuan Evans MBE, Chair of Nominet's Wales Advisory Group.
As partners in Nominet's founders programme, we are part of a select group of organisations bringing their new Welsh identity online with a .cymru or .wales website ahead of general release of the names to other businesses in Wales and the wider public.
Since forming in 1973, Gwalia has worked to strengthen and transform Welsh communities; the name 'Gwalia' itself evolved into an old Welsh name for Wales.
Our Chief Executive Michael Williams explains why we chose to get involved with .wales founders’ programme:
"We are proud to be a Welsh company, working for the people of Wales. Our roots are in the housing association movement and community action. We have grown to become a £64M turnover organisation employing over 1400 staff and now work in 18 of Wales’ local authorities providing services for people, not profit. The .wales domain is a chance to wear that commitment on our virtual sleeve for all the World Wide Web to see."
Gwalia's website will continue to be available at www.gwalia.com in addition to www.gwalia.wales.
