Special Olympics

Gwalia Chair Rt. Rev Anthony Pierce with John HayesWe've recently pledged £750 towards helping John Hayes, a 19 year old student at Neath and Port Talbot College to join team GB at the Special Olympics European International Athletics Championship in Russia this September.

The Hayes family have been Gwalia tenants since 2008. John, pictured here with our Chair, Rt. Rev. Anthony Pierce, has a strong passion for sports, especially running and his commitment and enthusiasm paid off when he was also selected to represent Wales at the Special Olympics National Indoor Athletics Championship this year in London, Birmingham, Swindon, Swansea and also in Bath in 2013.

Special Olympics is a global social movement which transforms lives through the joy of sport. It is the world’s largest sports organisation for people with intellectual disabilities. Nearly 4 million athletes in more than 170 countries take part in year-round sports training and competition programmes for both children and adults.
