Restore project turns the tables on furniture supplies
The Restore Project is a joint venture to create a Social Enterprise within the Vale of Glamorgan between Gwalia and Coastland Church.
As a partnership, they have identified the need for affordable, good quality furniture within the Vale and supply affordable and up-cycled furniture to the local community at minimal cost and to offer volunteering opportunities for people of all ages.
The shop is bursting with furniture and household appliances so whether you're looking for that unique, individual piece of furniture, or simply need a kettle, you can pop into ReStore and one of the volunteers will be more than happy to assist you. If you're looking for shabby chic or minimalist modern; ReStore has it!
Restore is managed by Coastlands Foodbank staff who are volunteers, or on work placement. It was the service user’s vision to create a social enterprise to enable them to develop skills through training placement and their employability. A steering group was established between the service users and Coastlands and through this, it was decided that a retail shop/warehouse setting would provide the most beneficial transferable skills to assist Gwalia service users into education, training and employment.
ReStore offers volunteering opportunities which provide valuable life skills and job experiences and help to serve the local community. The project also offers work placement opportunities, which can range from delivery driver, PAT tester or restorer. There is a small application and interview to replicate a real work experience without too much pressure for the placements. Gwalia service users can also attend PAT testing and customer service courses and it is hoped that they will soon be able to deliver more training courses in the near future.
One service user said “Since starting my work placement at Restore I have learnt how to PAT test electrical equipment, manage an eBay shop and know of the pain of delivering furniture up flights of stairs.”
