Ty Anwen shortlisted for Welsh design award
Ty Anwen, our residential mental health facility based in Trethomas, Caerphilly has been shortlisted for a prestigious Design Award by the Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW).
Ty Anwen is one of only eight developments across Wales in the running to be named winner of the ‘Welsh Architecture Awards 2015’
The combination of modern design and sophisticated technology at Ty Anwen has been praised for the way in which it creates a relaxing and safe environment that naturally supports recovery.
Elfed Roberts, our Head of Projects said: "The result of a meticulous design planning process is a safe, welcoming and supportive home that meets the highest therapeutic standards while also being in-keeping with the residential character of the area.
"In line with our brief Ty Anwen has a secluded, attractive and homely layout to ensure privacy for residents while also allowing them to build the skills and confidence they need to start living more independently, in a domestic, non-institutionalised setting.
"It was important to us to not only ensure that the facility is ‘outward facing’ to the local community, but that it becomes a part of the local community, through both the employment of local people and the participation of the residents in the local community."
Ty Anwen was designed by Manchester-based OMI Architects and consists of 16 studio apartments in addition to attractive and well thought out internal and external communal space. The very latest technology has been incorporated into the building; residents can be given different levels of access to technology and services to suit the needs of the resident.
The winner of the Welsh Architecture Awards 2015 will be announced at an awards ceremony in The Creative Cluster, Morgan Arcade, Cardiff on the 30th April.
