Welsh Male and Female Football Teams take on Homeless World Cup
Congratulations to two football teams from the Street Football Wales homeless football project as they fly out to compete at the annual Homeless World Cup in Poznan, Poland between 10-18th August.
The ‘The Welsh Dragons’ (male team) and ‘The Welsh Warriors’ (female team) have both been training hard in preparation for the 2013 Homeless World Cup. As part of their training session, players completed shuttle runs up and down Swansea’s infamous Constitution Hill to raise funds and boost fitness levels.
The tournament was originally established in 2003 and this year, both Welsh teams will be competing against 15 other football teams from countries throughout the World, with the hopes of winning the coveted prize of the Homeless World Cup.
Keri Harris, Street Football Wales Manager said: “Both teams have worked really hard and I am confident that we will make a big impact in the tournament. It’s the first time we’ve had a female football team as well, it has been a 10 year mission for SFW to take a female team to the annual tournament. We are all very excited and hope we can make Wales proud!”
Lots of support and financial sponsorship has been provided by various organisations to allow both teams to compete in the 2013 tournament. Organisations include Vi-Ability, Sport Wales, The FAW, CAMRE Bursary, GISDA and North Wales Housing.
